The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 标准日影 意识流小清新 只是这样的故事已经不太能有共鸣了
无法成为大人，却要被迫披上大人的外衣。比起失去什么，更令人沮丧的是被强加了自己不想要的东西。森山演得真好。喜欢那句“你的身体充满了未成佛的语言”
喜欢他坐着出租车路过曾经去过的地方，看到过去的自己的那些镜头
破碎，是大人的日常。让男的接受自己的普通可太难了(´-ω-`)....只有普通的人才会嫌弃普通吧；和花束的可爱没法比，男人至死是少年～他确实谁也没爱过，活该单身，七濑说的一点儿都对。男主在年轻的时候就已经是所谓“大人”的模样了，接受一切社会既定规则，20年没变。反而前女友离开他选择真正的成长，在“普通”的环境中，做自己喜欢的事情，不去固化自己同时还能安慰他人，这才是大人该有的样子，很酷。另外，女性还在被迫用出卖身体换取生存，而这就是男主嫌弃的“普通”。
不喝酒的人总是无法体会他们喝酒的快乐，未体验过感情的人也无法知晓和一个自己不爱的人在一起是如何的感觉，未取得事业上的成绩的人只晓得失意是怎样的。或许这对编剧来说是一个好的故事，但我并无法感同身受，我也不想让他抢走这名为普通的标签。（当然，或许他也不在乎。）
虽然没有永不结束的学园祭前夜，但还是希望每一片的我都能幸福。啊，我们被一个个恋人切成一片片。

好奇男主是怎么做到少年感与魅力大叔之间来回切换自如的，真棒！音乐 拍摄 剪辑都很棒！
可惜即使旧地重游，也无法时光倒流。少年狂，中年丧，为赋新词强说愁，人间正道是沧桑。
没有太看懂，大概因为有些部分没有共情吧。喜欢主角坐着taxi，伴随着小泽健二的歌，一路是过往的片段。觉得演员还挺厉害的，算是比较有跨度的戏，特别是从青涩时期转变到成熟的那段，觉得对比很大。
拍的太浅了，浮于表面，反而印证了这很无聊啊……
2021年11月6日观看。日本80后的怀旧片，比我们做的用心一点，但也并不深刻。
比花束有意思，适合作为元旦开年作观赏（追忆97出现的早期UC T恤，电影院上映的堕落天使和燕尾蝶大海报，两人在宇宙炮房的消磨时光片段情怀满满），当然针对这矫情的片名，看完只想说无法成为大人又如何？成为大人又能如何？普通又或不普通的好好活着的标准，无需他人定义评判。
想要过上普通人的生活，其实也很不容易，拼尽全力，也未必可以……
