The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 泪水如潮涌的电影，我理解大家所说的平庸，但是说好故事配好音乐已经很不容易，更何况女主的每一个情绪都有扎实的铺垫，她为自己的每一个选择负责。我作为独生女很难感受家人的负累和全体的支持，尤其感动她和家人相互依存的关系，以及关系的转型：在她的牺牲中家人得到了安慰，选择了成全。

看到最后有一种美国音乐版《垫底辣妹》的感觉，一家人的羁绊很深我懂，但是总体给人一种不够深刻的感觉。全片最触动我的点是小姑娘说：别把一切怪我头上。作为失聪家庭唯一的健全小孩承受了翻译，劳作，保卫家庭的义务，自己的小我被牺牲，这如果是我，早就窒息了。没有资格去自私任性的青春是我心中的题眼。不过片子没有放大这样的矛盾还是让她顺利追梦去了。比起这条故事线我对哥哥和女同学的恋爱很感兴趣。妈妈真是太美了！
这剧本工整到完全可以做教科书的程度，几条线交错太自然太合理了，尽管这样落入了俗套的下乘，但是它真的足够纯真😢
这部片能入围奥斯卡最佳影片也是因为ZhengZhi正确吧？也不是说这部片不好，中间突然变无声那段真的很华彩了，另外女主就那么随意学了一下就能考进伯克利？
最佳影片居然是看完都不想占用云盘资源立删的那种无聊程度

比原版强点，叙事上圆滑了，也多了一点细节……但那又怎样，这电影仍然不能使我们知道任何事，纯纯浪费时间

不知道说点啥，对这种鸡汤不感冒，不获奖永远不会看。就是那种作为“电影”来说硬件都合格没毛病，就是无法引起情绪上的触动。

3、故事虽然是励志的套路，细节却是满满，而且绝不鸡汤。无论是青春的躁动，成长的烦恼，梦想的追逐，亲情的羁绊，爱情的试探，还是聋哑人家庭不为人知的痛苦与欢乐，都被影片细腻而鲜活地展示出来。
剧情俗气到直让人怀疑是不是美国达人秀加长版幕后采访，歌也是那种耳朵听出茧的pop曲目，但是还是被校园音乐会那几分钟失聪静音的处理给感动到泪目了，一开始还以为是蓝牙耳机没电了。。。
一个聋哑人家庭中生出了一个健听女孩，她与家人的关系该如何处理？
还是生活细节刻画的很好，但没摆脱公式化的剧作，也几乎没有出彩的电影语言。从一家人吃饭哥哥不同意她在家捕鱼到妈妈和她在屋里谈心，再到和哥哥在海边争吵，连着这三场戏很打动人。
