The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. Darren and Annie still enjoy each other’s company and laugh at each other’s jokes, but, unfortunately, they can’t remember the last time they had sex. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a freebie be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it? What's the meaning of this film?
既成的文本已然是禁锢，而打破现有认识的结构亦是自我重复的，于是足够繁多的符号却纷纷掉落了下来，观看趣味变为了对符号拾捡的趣味，我们对大卫·洛维的期待真的只是如此吗，或者他这次终被自己反噬，从这个意义上讲，电影可以看作人类永远无法走出的困局，亦是创作难以跨越的瓶颈。
The first part in B/W could be seen as a journey to bid his brother a moving adieu by transporting the ashes of Pirandello, whose works have been adapted by the brothers, to his Sicilian homeland. Whereas the second part in color is quite confusing for us who have never read the story before. The shift from grey to color is poetic though

很老派的影像和处理方式，也很私人化的故事。但一定要拍出这个故事的心是电影最令人动容之处。

以皮兰德娄的身后骨灰为始发点，巨大的争议与巨大的荣耀都曾聚焦于这位作家身上，回溯那“恐怖、野蛮、挣扎的十年”，藉由魂归大海而达成漫长的告别；未完成的告别则不仅是皮兰德娄遗作——《钉子》化为影片第二部分，更是“To my brother”——保罗·塔维亚尼对哥哥的纪念，两部分的捏合通过一位作家和黑白/彩色的切换达到转承。
