The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 2022.7.11 很温馨有趣America的片子，人能在乏味的生活中，找到这样的意义，难得又羡慕。特别是夫妻俩的初衷就是为了帮助小镇（虽然这段铺垫得不好），蛮打动人的。
从化学转专业到数学的老白，果然一退休就想着搞钱，真是我辈楷模。回到电影，老白和家人以及小镇居民的团结，特别是考虑风险后决定解散后的被理解，老白是站在集体利益思考问题的；相对比名校天才则是以剥削者空手套白狼的自私自大，两位找到bug的命运和结局也是情理之中，至于彩票这个零和游戏，从开始就是不对等的概率赢人性的定局，我们应当回避小概率事件多用力在大概率事件上。
老白太适合演这种高智商的大佬气质的狠人，开局总是委于现状干着普普通通的人民教师的工作～绝命毒师yyds

是真的味同嚼蜡啊。难怪这电影连中文字幕都很难找。因为是真的很无趣。看了一下评论，确实大多数人也是因为主角是老白给好评的居多。

这是一部根据真实事件改编的电影——《杰瑞和玛姬生活阔绰》。这对老夫妇很有爱，心是如此的纯净和善良，小镇的居民们也很有爱。信任 是一种可贵 值得珍惜的情感！
但是可是然鹅 故事的并非着眼于此， 老白在赢钱后发现自己的天赋让自己忽略家人， 而这一次的机会让他以一种独特方式与家人、与小镇上每个居民相连， 所以老头子最终放弃时得到众人的鼎力支持。
